History

The first permanent english settlement was established in 1620 by the Pilgrims who came on the Mayflower.In 1770 a few british soldiers ended a small fight by shooting five men.

   The government taxed the tea and started the Tea Act. When East India was going to ship taxed tea to Boston, a group called the Sons of Liberty sneaked on the boat and dumped all the tea in the harbor, this event is known as the Boston Tea Party.That brought the Intolerable Acts which punished Boston. Then Boston rebeled which brought the Battle at Bunker Hill.

    Massachusetts brought a new constitution and was the first state to abolish slavery.

        The Industrial Revolution made Massachusetts one of the leaders in industrial inovation and development during the 19th century.They were very successful in the iron making buisness.

    In 1891 and 1895 the sports of basketball and volleyball were invented in the western part of Massachusetts cities of Springfield and Holyoke.Springfield is home to basketball hall of fame and holyoke is home to volleyball hall of fame.
